A Spring Evening in Nature: Moths, Marshmallows, & Campfire Stories

Come out for a special spring evening under the night sky with local moth expert Zach DuFran and our friends at Lake Thunderbird State Park. As dusk settles over the park, Zach will introduce us to the fascinating world of Oklahoma’s native moths—sharing why these often-overlooked nighttime pollinators matter and how simple actions in our own yards can help support them.

Using a light and sheet, Zach will attract moths and other nighttime insects, so we can observe them up close as they arrive. He’ll be photographing and identifying the species that visit, giving us a rare glimpse into the hidden diversity of life that emerges after dark.

We’ll also gather around a small campfire to roast marshmallows and enjoy eco-stories inspired by Oklahoma’s landscapes and wildlife—an opportunity to slow down, connect with nature, and celebrate spring together.

This event is cohosted by Lake Thunderbird State Park and WildCare Oklahoma.
