SUMMARY:WILD about Monarchs! Pollinator Education for K-8
DESCRIPTION:Learn to engage students in the story of monarchs and pollin
ators using the Project WILD at the OKC Zoo or Oxley Nature Center!\n\n\
n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE WORKSHOP:\n\nEach fall\, monarch butterflies take fli
ght on one of the most remarkable migrations in the natural world. Atten
d on Saturday\, October 17th in either Oklahoma City or Tulsa for an unf
orgettable professional development experience that blends hands-on scie
 nce\, wildlife education\, and real-world conservation action.\n\nIn thi
s workshop\, educators will learn how to engage students in the story of
monarchs and other pollinators using the award-winning Project WILD cur
riculum alongside resources from the OKC Zoo or Tulsa’s Oxley Nature C
enter. Activities will highlight inquiry-based learning about pollinatio
n\, habitat needs\, and the connections between wildlife and people. Edu
cators will also explore how pollinator-focused lessons align with Oklah
oma Academic Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)\
, providing meaningful classroom applications across science\, literacy\
, and social studies.\n\nSpecial Field Experience: A highlight of the wo
rkshop will be the opportunity to go into the field to tag monarchs as p
art of ongoing migration research. This rare\, hands-on experience will
give participants direct insight into citizen science and how educators
can connect their students to authentic scientific investigations.\n\nWh
at to Expect\n\n Interactive Pollinator Lessons: Experience Project WIL
D activities and learn how to adapt them for multiple grade levels.\n N
atural Resource Expert Insights: Hear directly from experts at the about
  monarch biology\, migration\, and conservation.\n Hands-On Tagging: Pa
rticipate in monarch tagging and data collection to contribute to real-w
orld science.\n Curriculum Guide: Receive your own Project WILD activit
y guide to continue the learning in your classroom.\n Resource Sharing:
Connect with educational programs and community partners to expand your
teaching toolkit on pollinators and conservation.\n\nWorkshop Details\n
\n Cost: $10 (includes Project WILD K-12 ‘Terrestrial’ guide and wo
rkshop supplies)\n Lunch: Pack a lunch\n\nScholarships are available fo
r participants for whom the registration fee creates a financial burden.
Please contact the state coordinators for scholarship information.\n\nW
hy Attend? These workshops are designed to help educators:\n\n Integrat
e monarch and pollinator lessons into PreK–12 classrooms with clear st
andards alignment.\n Model the use of authentic data collection and cit
izen science for student learning.\n Inspire students to understand and
protect pollinators—key species for both ecosystems and human food sy
stems.\n Bring home resources\, guides\, and experiences that can immed
iately enhance your teaching practice.\n\nTake flight with go WILD About
