Madison Square Monarch Garden

Madison Elementary in Norman has been adopted by Lowe’s Home Improvement. In the last year, we have built a 2500 square foot garden which includes 4 large raised beds, 14 pollinator beds and a 10’ x 16’ greenhouse. We are in the process of building a 200 square-foot monarch waystation. The fourth and fifth grades have been responsible for figuring the amount of stone and dirt we will need to purchase, what plants and supplies we need, and what is required to become a certified way station. They are completely in charge of our budget and contacting businesses to check pricing.

Master Gardener Teaching Garden

This area is designed, built, landscaped and maintained by volunteers of the Master Gardener Association of Rogers County- in partnership with OSU Cooperative Extension (Rogers County) and the Claremore Parks Department. The Teaching Garden is located in Will Rogers Park in Claremore and is open to the public on assigned days through the week. There are several themed gardens including a large pollinator garden with plant varieties that attract monarchs-as well as other butterfly, bee and pollinator type insects.

Saving the Monarchs thru Education

Taking a live Monarch presentation (eggs, caterpillars and chrysalis) to an elementary school’s Nature class, along with brochures, bookmarks, coloring pages, etc. Allowing an up close and hands on learning experience of the Monarch Butterfly stages for the students. Teaching the need to, and the how to, of helping save the Monarchs.

DD Kirkland/Cox Monarch Waystation

Cox is sponsoring a Monarch Waystation for DD Kirkland Elementary school. We have identified a space in the school that we can improve for multiple reasons; to create a habitat for butterflies, to beautify the school, and to provide an outdoor class room where kids can learn hands on about science. We teamed up with the school on the design and the children helped us plant the garden.

Friends of Nature

Students at Simply Imagine Early Childhood Learning Center in Pryor, OK are growing and maintaining their own butterfly, herb and vegetable gardens to learn more about nature and healthy living.

CK School Pollinator Gardens

We have converted a space at our school to an outdoor garden wherein we have installed and planted three pollinator gardens. Students involved in a nature course (called “Knights in Nature”) as well as our student Green Team help to plant and maintain the gardens. We have planted milkweed and other types of plants and flowers to try and attract monarchs and other pollinators.
