Get ready to spread your wings Oklahoma! It’s time to celebrate Oklahoma’s newest license plate! Join The Nature Conservancy, Visit Enid and Okies for Monarchs on November 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a street party to kickoff pre-orders for the new monarch specialty license plate.
“At this event, our goal is to collect the first 100 pre-orders that are required for the new monarch license plate to go into production,” Marcy Jarrett, Director of Visit Enid. “If you haven’t been to Enid in a while, this is the perfect opportunity to see why we are so excited about this license plate. The launch party will be outdoors in front of our large butterfly mural that was created by the same artist as the license plate.”
Pre-order a license plate at the event and get a free packet of pollinator seed mix from Johnston Seed and be entered to win a print of the Enid butterfly mural signed by the artist, Rick Sinnett. The cost of the plate is $38 with $20 from each plate benefiting The Nature Conservancy’s pollinator habitat conservation and outreach efforts in Oklahoma. At the launch party, plates can be paid for by cash or check. Plates are also available to pre-order beginning November 1 online at nature.org/okmonarchs. If 100 pre-orders are sold within 180 days, the plate will go into production.
Additional activities for launch party-goers include face painting from Leonardo’s Children’s Museum, kids activities with Okies for Monarchs and Main Street Enid, expert gardeners with Garfield County Master Gardeners, live music by Van Damage, beer garden, and specialty kids drinks with proceeds benefiting Okies for Monarchs.
“The license plate is a great opportunity to raise awareness about the important role monarchs and other native pollinators play in our food production and the need for more miles of milkweed and wildflowers,” said Mike Fuhr, State Director for The Nature Conservancy of Oklahoma. “This launch party in Enid is a stellar example of how Oklahoma communities are stepping up to the plate to help save the monarchs. Everyone is invited. So come out and join us for the fun!”

ABOUT THE LICENSE PLATE
Last May, Governor Stitt signed Senate Bill 170 authorizing the creation of a monarch-themed license plate to honor and raise awareness about the magnificent monarch. In September, more than 12,800 Oklahomans voted for their favorite of six monarch-themed license plate designs in a recent online contest hosted by The Nature Conservancy. With 3,383 votes, the vibrant and colorful plate designed by local artist Rick Sinnett of Mustang was the winning artwork selected by the public.
HOW TO ORDER A PLATE
The monarch specialty license plate will be available for the public to pre-order at the launch party and online beginning November 1, 2019 for 180 days at nature.org/okmonarchs. If 100 plates are sold within that time frame, then the plate will go into production and be available at tag agencies statewide. The cost of this plate will be $38 with $20 from each plate benefiting the Conservancy’s pollinator habitat conservation and outreach efforts in Oklahoma.
