Monarch Tagging at Hackberry Flat

To celebrate the annual migration of monarch butterflies, the Wildlife Department is hosting monarch tagging at Hackberry Flat Wildlife Management Area October 2nd through October 6th.

Monarch tagging sessions will begin at 10:00 AM at the William H. “Bill” Crawford Building. We will discuss butterfly basics, then monarchs collected from the area will be tagged and released.

*Tagging activities will be limited to the number of butterflies caught.

  • *Registration is required.

  • *Participants must be 10 years old for all events.
  • *Registration for each event will close when the participant count reaches 20.
  • *Minimum of 5 registrants is required for the event.
  • *No pets allowed.
  • *The scheduled events will be held regardless of the number of monarchs migrating through Hackberry Flat Wildlife Management Area.
