To create a healthier environment, Oklahoma City’s Waterway Clean Sweep program and OKC Parks are recruiting volunteers to pick up trash along the River from 8 to 10 a.m. on July 5.
Groups, families and individuals are welcome. Register at okc.gov/WaterwayCleanSweep.
Everyone will receive safety training, along with gloves, a safety vest and trash bags. People are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles. Volunteer hour verification letters will be provided upon request.
Check-in and training will occur at the Wiley Post Park Event Center and Pavilion in Wiley Post Park, 2021 S Robinson Ave.
“The Oklahoma River is a popular spot for celebrating the July 4th holiday,” Environmental Protection Superintendent Derek Johnson said. “Unfortunately, a tremendous amount of trash is left behind after the festivities end. This year, we are asking for your help to make sure we remove the trash before it ends up in our waterways.”
