Come celebrate National Pollinator Week by enjoying some very local honey! Those of you familiar with the CommonWealth Urban Farms community have long enjoyed the kaleidoscope of pollinator gardens throughout the neighborhood. On June 22nd you will have the opportunity to sample and purchase the unusually beautiful honey that came from these very gardens.
Urban honey has long been prized for its complex and layered flavors and for the diversity of pollen it contains – making it ideal for seasonal allergy sufferers. Because urban bees don’t visit crops, it also takes longer to produce, so it is often a bit hard to come by.
Okies for Monarchs will be there with free packets of native pollinator seed mix, specially curated for Oklahoma, as well as planting guides, and tips and tricks to make your yard especially buzzworthy.
Lia’s Garden at Commonwealth will have a variety of native, annual, pollinator favorite plants, such as Golden Crownbeard, Indian Blanket and Scarlet Sage, on sale for just $1,50.
The event will be this Saturday at Lia’s plant stand at CommonWealth Urban Farms, at 1016 NW 32nd in OKC, from 10am to 2pm, and there is no cost to attend.
