Hey Northwestern Oklahoma! Okies for Monarchs is coming to you on Saturday, May 31 to ask for your help to save the monarchs and our other pollinator friends! We will be in Woodward at the Crystal Beach Park amphitheater from 10am to 2pm with native wildflowers and milkweed for sale, as well as a park full of family-friendly activities with our partners. We’ll also have experts on hand to answer your questions and provide presentations that are full of helpful knowledge and useful tips for your monarch-saving adventures! And not only that, we’ll also have FREE WILDFLOWER plugs* at the Okies for Monarchs booth.

- Native wildflower and milkweed sale with Prairie Wind Nursery, Sanctuary Gardens and Johnston Seed.
- FREE* starter wildflowers and seed packets from Okies for Monarchs.
- Engaging activities for youth: DIY seed balls, seed germination, vegetation station, buttons + more with our friends at: Oklahoma Department of Transportation Natural Resources Program, Oklahoma Local Agricultural Collaborative, Oklahoma State Parks and Young Naturalist’s Club.
- Tour the Alabaster Caverns’ bat trailer from Oklahoma State Parks.
- Monarch merchandise, habitat signs and nature books for sale with Okies for Monarchs and Oklahoma Native Plant Society.
- Local pollinator art from Amber Andersen Art and Larry K Hill Studios.
- Tasty treats to eat from local food trucks, KC’s Eatery and Mr. Yeti’s Snowball.
- Bring your monarch & milkweed questions! Local experts will be on hand and giving presentations.
11AM – Why is OK so Important for Monarchs?
From their migration to their milkweed, learn all about monarchs in this 101-crash course with an Okies for Monarchs expert who has planted the path for pollinators with a variety of community gardens and farms.
12PM – What to Plant and How to Build
It’s time to get our hands dirty! Vonceil Harmon with ODOT is going to show us what to and what not to do to help save the monarchs. Vonceil has endless miles working with monarchs and milkweed on Oklahoma’s highway roadsides!
1PM – Milkweed & MythBusters with Cowboy Bill
Got milkweed questions? Bill’s got answers! He’s also got loads of milkweed myths to bust and will brighten your day! From growing up on a ranch to creating his own native plant nursery, Bill Farris with Prairie Wind Nursery and milkweed have spent a lifetime together!
