Establish a native wildflower garden in my front yard
In 2024 we were introduced to Joey Santore found of Kill Your Lawn: Crime Pays but Botany Doesn’t. We were sold! So in 2025 we completely revamped our yard by focusing on building healthy soil and incorporating native plants throughout the entire front yard.
This is my little slice of garden where I am trying to create a space for all pollinators including our beautiful monarchs.
Removal of grass. Planting pollinator plants. Organic as possible with no use of harmful chemicals.
I rent a duplex in Claremore. Over the past five years, I’ve transformed it to a monarch waystation. I estimate greater than 100 milkweeds, the majority is tuberosa. I have about a dozen swamp, I have a few verticilatta, some virdis and one more I can’t remember. Wish I could give a tour.
I hired a native landscaper to transform the entire yard of my house to a native butterfly oasis. It has been VERY labor intensive to maintain these 2 years, constantly pulling weeds in the spring and keeping other grasses from taking back over all summer has been a chore. I have learned a lot and am still learning. It is worth the effort to sit and watch the butterflies come to feed!
